FAQ's
How often should I stain or reseal my deck?
Most decks around Knoxville need fresh stain or sealant every 2–3 years, depending on sun exposure, rainfall, and how well the deck was prepped last time. If your deck is fading, feeling rough, or water is soaking in instead of beading up on the surface, it's probably time for some TLC.
Can I just paint my deck instead of staining it?
You can, but we usually don't recommend it. Paint sits on top of the wood and tends to crack, peel, and blister, especially with Tennessee's mix of summer heat and humidity. The right penetrating stain soaks in, protects the grain, and ages a lot more gracefully.
My deck's getting up there in age. Is it worth restoring, or should I just rebuild?
It depends on the bones. Framing, footings, and ledger boards are the first things we inspect. If the structure is solid, a good refinish and some targeted board replacement can add another decade of life. If it's not, we'll tell you. We'd rather give you the honest answer than sell you a fix that won't last.
Do you build new decks from scratch, or only refinish existing ones?
Both. Our carpentry team handles full builds and major structural work, and our finishing team handles the staining, sealing, and detail work in between.
What materials do you work with?
Pressure-treated pine, cedar, composite (like Trex), and hardwoods. We even work with Ipe! Each behaves differently when it comes to finishing and long-term maintenance, and we'll help you weigh the trade-offs before you commit.
When's the best time of year to build or stain a deck in Knoxville?
Spring and fall are ideal, with mild temperatures and lower humidity that give stains and sealants the best chance to cure properly. That said, we build and refinish year-round and plan carefully around the weather.
How long does a typical deck project take?
A full build usually runs 1–2 weeks depending on size and complexity. A stain or refinish job is typically 2–4 days. You'll get a specific timeline in your proposal.
Do you offer warranties on your deck work?
Yes. We stand behind every project we complete. We'll walk you through the specifics of our workmanship warranty, along with any manufacturer warranties on materials, before you sign.
